We woke up this morning in Tupelo and visited the Visitor's Center on the Natchez Trace--a 444-mile National Parkway that goes all the way from Nashville to Natchez. One day, we'd like to drive the entire parkway, but this time we drove only a little--as we want to get back to San Antonio in time for Elena's last rodeo of the season on Saturday.
We spent all day in Oxford--eating lunch at Bouré's on the square and spending a few hours in the Square bookstores. Good food, good company and good books--what a wonderful way to spend a day! We had tomato pie and catfish PoBoy--delicious!
Then we toured Rowan Oak--William Faulkner's home:
Faulkner died at the age of 64--having taken a nasty fall from a horse, complicated by his alcoholism.

In the evening, we discovered AJAX, another great place to eat on the square--and returned to the bookstores for one final browse:
