Cats and Their Penchant for Killing Song Birds

My dear friend Joy Hein is an amazing artist and naturalist.  She recently painted this to demonstrate to those who don't know (which I didn't) that cats left outside are a real danger to the bird population. Every year in the US, they kill four billion song birds--and 13 billion world wide!

If you want lots of cardinals for conversations with you or your grandchildren, please keep your cats inside.  I've noticed that my own bird population is much less this year, now that a feral cat hangs around.
