Race for (and with) the dogs

The SNIPSA race was held in my neighborhood yesterday to raise money for adoptable animals, and it started and ended at the Alamo Heights Pool, a couple of blocks from my house.  Veronica, her sister Brenda, and friend Cassandra were three of 11, 000 runners, many with their own dogs on leashes.  There was a dog-cat pair in costume, the dog named CHIPS and the cat named SALSA. There were dogs of every breed, size and color among the runners and spectators.  At eight in the morning, Elena and I stood in the crowd of spectators and got to see the start of the race.

Veronica (middle) won 3rd place in the Women-With-Dogs--
as she and Abbey (their golden lab) are quite fleet of foot.)

Afterwards, we all piled in one car and went to the Pearl Farmer's Market in the rain--a nice place to go every Saturday morning in San Antonio.  They had zydeco music yesterday, but about the time we arrived, they had to pack up their instruments due to the rain.

Saturdays in San Antonio are hard to beat, especially now that the weather has cooled a bit-- and nobody in this drought is complaining about the rain.  We love it!

Last night Kate and I went to Sandy's for dinner and a trip back in time and far away in miles, all in  Sandy's cozy downtown apartment on the River). We had a viewing marathon of The Outlanders series, based on the meticulously-researched series of historical novels by Diana Gabledon.  What an all-round wonderful day--from Alamo Heights to Scotland.
